Myself and Mike from the Deathmatch Cult put a lot of effort into this newsletter and the Deathmatch News Radio podcast. We are trying to expand this brand as we are doing more in depth interviews with legends and current stars in deathmatches such as Mad Man Pondo, Todd Gordon, Matt Tremont, Brett Lauderdale, Japanese stars like Masashi Takeda and more.

This is all done out of our love for the genre of deathmatch wrestling but the more support we get the more invested we can be! We have started a Patreon account with multiple tier levels of support that give access to interview archives, early podcast access and more.

Big Japan ran Sumo Hall on November 11th, their biggest show of the year and meant as a cap to a lot of storylines. Big Japan announced a crowd of 3,880 fans for “RYOGOKUTAN 2018” today in Sumo Hall which is well up from 3,179 fans last year. Going into the show we had the return of Yuji Okabayashi, Daisuke Sekimoto challenging Hideki Suzuki for the BJW Strong Championship in a rematch from May 5th which ended in a time limit draw and Masashi Takeda defending the Deathmatch Title against Masaya Takahashi who he won it from on August 19th, 2017 and defeated again in December of 2017 making this the third match in the trilogy.

The show opened with a musical montage set to YMCA (with GK, for Great Kojika, superimposed) featuring a lot of old footage including of Kasai in the dojo and training as well as match footage. They debuted a new ring canvas as well.

Screen Shot 2018-11-17 at 7.22.55 AM.png

The Kasai/Numazawa vs. Ito/Kobayashi match was better than I expected. It started with a video package where Numazawa stressed his limited time left in the ring. Kasai came out with Numazawa totheir Slipknot theme and during the introductions there was no special emphasis placed on him.

During the match they used a razor and knife board as well as a skewer board. In one especially nasty spot Kasai and Ito attacked each other with razor boards and Ito looked like he got scalped legit to his skull.

Screen Shot 2018-11-11 at 6.34.42 PM.png

They brawled outside the ring and Ito hit a splash onto Kasai on a table from a balcony about 10-12 feet up. They also used a syringe on Kasai’s cheek before Numazawa was pinned after a double frog splash and elbow combo. During the pin and after the finish Kasai stared down Ito before giving the finger to Kojika and Tosaka (really paused on Tosaka).

Screen Shot 2018-11-11 at 6.46.43 PM.png

The match kept a great pace, the crowd was into it the whole way and even without glass it had that level of violence these 4 are known for. After the match Kasai and Numazawa came back and attacked. Kasai cut a promo with the syringe in his mouth. The crowd was way into Kasai chanting for him multiple times and big time after the match.

There has been no formal announcement that Kasai will be returning to BJW but all parties have wanted a match between Ito and Kasai for a while now and Kasai has stated that he will bring his deathmatch style back one day.

For the main event when Masaya Takahashi came out his video entrance called him the Deathmatch champion already in a small snafu before changing it to the correct video later. The match between Takahashi and Takeda was a barricade match because Sumo Hall does not allow glass, fire or explosions of any sort. They had a barbed wire net and fork board contraption on the outsides as well as a gadget and pop can board inside. Later they brought out a ladder with a scissor board on it.

The match itself was good but not great. Their previous matches really were the groundwork for the resurgence in more mainstream attention to Takeda’s title reign. The gimmicks were a bit constrictive and it really shows how fluid the light tubes can be woven into a match. The big spots were a power bomb to the barbed wire barricade outside, a throw over the top rope to the outside onto the fork board, the can board cut them both up pretty bad before Takahashi hit two jackhammers and pinned Takeda to win the title.

Takeda left the ring fairly quick before the roster came out for the end of show celebration.

I thought the show was really good from top to bottom. Okabayashi is back and is on a losing stream gimmick where he put over Kawakami who has so much star potential its insane. Uto has an entirely new ring attire and gimmick now along with other lower cards guys and overall there feels like a new set of matches for every one to go through for the next few months before they’ll need another shake up.

With Takeda’s title reign over it does allow us to look back and reflect.

Screen Shot 2018-11-04 at 8.48.03 PM.png

Takeda won the title on August 19th, 2017 from Takahashi, Takahashi had just signed a contract with BJW in April and won the Ikkitousen deathmatch series that year before defeating Abdullah Kobayashi to win the title. He is definitely poised to be the next guy to carry the division for the foreseeable future.

When Takeda won the title I was pretty surprised. It was Takeda’s first time with the title after a decade in the company and I had assumed that because Takeda is independent (Miyamoto wrestles under the 666 banner, Kodaka has wrestled under several companies but Takeda was always independent of any company, Takeda was affiliated with Style E when he started in Big Japan and then U Style when Style E became that before going full freelance) there were certain reasons that kept the title from him. His first few defenses were against Minoru Fujita and Hoshino in some easily predictable matches that were still great and high speed but it wasn’t until his defense against Takahashi that his reign really got started.

The defense against Takahashi in December 2017 was just amazing and was the first time I started seeing Takeda’s name mentioned in MOTY and WOTY polls among more mainstream voices in wrestling. In January he had a defense against Tsukamoto that was out of this world and also led to him winning the BJW tag team titles with Tsukamoto giving him his first double title moment.

Screen Shot 2018-11-03 at 8.01.47 PM.png

In May of 2018 he won the King of Freedoms title and became the first person to carry both major Deathmatch titles in Japan. He defeated Abdullah Kobayashi just 3 days later in probably the fastest turnaround for a deathmatch champion ever with 2 defenses so close before building to probably the signature match of his reign against Isami Kodaka.

Kodaka had pinned Takeda for the BJW tag titles earlier in the year in his first pitfall loss since winning the title and it led to a match on June 20th at Korakuen Hall that sold out the venue. The match was an absolute war with tons of ladder spots and light tubes everywhere. It was hard hitting and a fast paced nonstop sprint of violence that set off Twitter into actually rallying for a deathmatch to make it into MOTY rankings and pushed Takeda’s star to the tipping point.

Just a few weeks later he defeated Jun Kasai in yet another Korakuen Hall sellout for Freedoms (one of the largest gates in the history of the company) and it was at that moment every one knew this was Takeda’s year and Takeda was redefining these titles. He was adding a weight of legitimacy and leading a new generation of deathmatch fighters as the old guard was slowing down to a halt while Takeda, Kodaka, Miyamoto and others were just reaching their prime. In August he flew to the US and won the GCW NGI 3 and later defeated Ryuji Ito.

All of these wins and accomplishments makes the past 15 months a historic reign that makes Takeda a mandatory conversation piece when discussing the best deathmatch wrestlers of all time.

Some have said they wanted him to carry the title longer but realistically there were no more challengers and Takahashi was the only legit wrestler to take it from him. The only other guys on the roster available would be Ueki, Sakuda and Uto and none of them are really taken seriously at this moment.

Screen Shot 2018-11-09 at 2.34.43 PM.png

Since losing the title Takeda has been pretty humble. Takeda mentioned in an interview that he is hoping to buy an owl now that he has lost the BJW title. He has been announced for some worked MMA events in 2019 and will have his next big defense of the Freedoms title in December 25th at Korakuen Hall for Bloody Xmas.

GCW held their LA Confidential show on November 16th in Los Angeles. Going into the show it sure seemed like there was a bit of a curse on it. A few weeks ago the venue, the Avalon, canceled the booking over fears of Nick Gage being a former felon doing felonious shit (they may have had a good intuition now that the dust has settled), then Joey Ryan had to cancel due to a torn pec muscle just days before the show which led to David Arquette taking his place in the main event.

Going into the show I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the card. The first major match announced was Bob Holly vs. Brody King which sounded like a fun match in the vein of PCO vs. Walter where a star of the past comes up to face a tough as nails indie star to prove what they can do. The problem is they then brought in D’Lo Brown and it felt like a cavalcade of Sunday Night Heat castaways. The rest of the card featured some West Coast locals like Eli Everfly and Jungle Boy, indie guys like Ethan Page and Human Tornado but at no point did it feel like a GCW card. I started thinking about those “GCW’s Most Wanted” shirts and only 3/10 of the guys on the shirts were on this card.

But this is Game Changer Wrestling, not Deathmatch Wrestling. They are out to try things and do stuff nobody else expects and these Joey Janela shows specifically are known for some wild and crazy risks booking wise so I went into it knowing it just wasn’t geared towards me and that is ok.

The show was sold out weeks in advance and Fite.TV announced they would be donating a quarter of all proceeds to victims of the California wild fires.

As a show it was fine. I won’t go over every match but here were my highlights and lowlights.

It opened with The Great Sasuke vs. DJZ filling in for The Amazing Red who missed his flight due to the bad weather in New York. If you’ve seen Sasuke recently in Japanese indies this was about what you’d expect and a fun match. Holly vs. Brody King was a bit of a let down as Holly couldn’t really hang and it was pretty short. Definitely not a PCO performance.

D’Lo Brown came in incredibly overweight and wrestling in a shirt. Ethan Page and D’Lo had a fairly slow match built around WWE superstar spots like the people’s elbow and D’Lo’s signature stuff but D’Lo just didn’t look super hot in the match.

Marko Stunt broke his leg in a nasty spot where he took a Canadian Destroyer and smacked his shins on a box of some sort against Eli Everlfy.

Screen Shot 2018-11-18 at 9.16.24 PM.png

The real standout new talent on the card was definitely Jacob Fatu who was a big Samoan guy looking a lot like Umaga and he did some insane dives and showed incredible strength in his win over KTB. Someone mentioned to me that Samoan family still has some power base and hooking up with them is a good move overall.

Screen Shot 2018-11-03 at 8.02.05 PM.png

The main event was Gage vs. Arquette and it occupied the news circuit the entire weekend. David Arquette is mostly known in wrestling for winning the WCW World Title in their dying days and just created a black skid mark in doing so. He is a big wrestling fan and the past year he has been getting properly trained (he looks in great shape for 47) and doing matches in indies and in Mexico under a mask. Taking this match was a bit wild.

The match started as a pretty regular match and eventually Gage brought out light tubes. He nailed Arquette with a bundle who sold it awesome. They did some more spots with the tubes including Arquette hitting a cutter over some tubes propped between chairs. Joey Ryan got involved and tried to attack Gage before XPW and CZW star Messiah came in to take him out.

Screen Shot 2018-11-18 at 9.16.48 PM.png

Some of the crowd knew who it was but most didn’t and I think they could’ve just introduced Messiah at the beginning of the show in the crowd to prep the audience. Eventually Gage got the upper hand and started going after Arquette with a pizza cutter.

Everything after this is my own conjecture based on what I saw.

DsOJyOHU4AAJAkk.jpg

Eventually Gage got on top of Arquette with a tube and started gouging his forehead, busted it on his head, went back to gouging but Arquette got Gage with a double leg takedown and got on top of him and time stood still before Arquette did a goofy cover for 2 and left the ring. He was bleeding pretty bad for a former Hollywood B+lister and looked downright pissed. He returned to the ring, they wrestled for a second longer, Gage tried to break more tubes and Arquette flipped out, threw a chair at Gage and Gage pinned him with a simple arm throw and Arquette left the ring holding his neck. Later on he showed that he had a pretty significant cut on his neck.

A lot of people are trying to read deep into this but I think it was as simple as the adrenaline wore off and he wanted to get out of there. Nick Mondo (who was at the show as he lives in LA) said once in a shoot interview that his TOD 1 match against Wifebeater was a lowlight in his career as it was just so violent and after a german duplex he felt Wifebeater’s blood all in his mouth and he immediately left his wrestling persona and just wanted the match to end. I think this is simply what happened here. While getting gouged with the pizza cutter Arquette simply said alright, I did enough, let’s get out of here.

After the show TMZ and Fox News along with hundreds more aggregate news sites ran stories about the show with photos, videos and reports which I’m sure GCW was more than pleased with.

At the show was Nick Mondo, Messiah, Joey Ryan as well as Chris Hero who was giving away shirts with Matt Riddle and Jey Uso.

They held an after show where they removed the ring and held 3 no ring matches. Jimmy Lloyd won a 4 way over Koto Hiro and KTB and Tony Deppen, Facade defeated DJZ and Nick Gage defeated Brody King. During the Facade match he did a balcony dive and one of the GCW staffers suffered a leg injury.

In talking to another long time GCW fan we both were just kind of meh on the show outside of the handful of highlights but the fact is the show was a huge success. They sold out the building weeks in advance, the Fite.TV stream and Twitter trending stats were high and they got tons of mainstream publicity for the main event. Match quality wise I don’t think anything would place as a “great” match by my standards but that main event is definitely surreal.

Going forward GCW has several shows announced and as a deathmatch fan get ready to have your balls kicked hard.

They have the Asbury Park show on November 24th and another on December 29th. November 24th is definitely looking like a deathmatch based show with Eric Ryan vs. Matt Tremont (Tremont’s return to the company), Shlak and Crane vs. The Rejects and more. On January 12th they have a Chicago show and it will definitely be a deathmatch show with some surprising talent as well as Nate Webb teasing that he’ll be flying through glass on the show and then February 16th in New Jersey.

This February 16th NJ show doesn’t list a building and it has a star by it. If you are a deathmatch fan get your tickets to this show as soon as it is announced. You will be shocked.

The Bloodsport show on April 4th has announced Hideki Suzuki who was a special request of Josh Barnett and one of his favorite guys. Suzuki was one of the last students of Billy Robinson, one of the most famous gaijin wrestlers in the history of classic Japanese wrestling, Suzuki is considered the last line in catch wrestling and you get a sense of what wrestling was like in the “golden days” when you see his matches with a lot of planning, precision, heavy suplexes and grappling similar to what most see from Zack Sabre Jr. matches in NJPW. There are very few like him and he carries a lot of legitimacy in Japan where he runs a catch wrestling training camp as well.

Finally they haven’t announced the Tournament of Survival but they do have a show on June 1st in New Jersey which lines up nicely.

I know I’ve written this before but they stumbled into luck by naming the company after the Game Changer concert venue because going forward GCW can put on any type of show they want and it always seems to fit the mold even if its not my cup of tea.

Screen Shot 2018-10-28 at 11.45.04 PM.png

October 28th, 2018 will go down as a day of infamy as Onita broke his promise to his fans and came back to wrestle “one more” match. Fans booed him as he came out and most in the business were pretty annoyed with Onita for yet another fake retirement.

Nah, I’m joking, the wild thing kicked ass, fans waved flags in support, shit exploded and he threw water on every one as they chanted his name.

The match was a 6 man tag with Onita teaming with Kendo Kashin and HASEGAWA to defeat Tomohiko Hashimoto, Raiden and Kim Duk who was in the original W*ing decades ago. It was held in a Yokohama fish market in an open air setting and they had exploding boards on the outside as well as an exploding bat. The boards looked pretty gnarly as they exploded with big fireballs and the bat looked good too.

Onita took only a handful of bumps including a stunner landing on his butt which can’t feel good and got the pin in the end.

Screen Shot 2018-10-28 at 8.50.46 PM.png

Onita claimed he was only paid $10 for his match in Japan but because his appearances abroad don’t count he will accept full booking fees so GCW and other companies will have to pay. He will also be trying to lobby to wrestle on the February 19th Sumo Hall Giant Baba memorial show.

Combat Zone Wrestling held their Night of Infamy go home show for Cage of Death on November 10th. CZW has had a very rough 2018 with very low attendance and a few bad PR moments such as leaked private Facebook messages about comping tickets, acknowledging bad reactions and low turnouts, dropped storylines, big name talent leaving and just an overall bland structure of the company. Shaheen of THT Podcast often notes that the shows are just Dojo Wars with MJF in the main event and a much lower emphasis on deathmatch and hardcore wrestling.

Last month’s show saw them have some pretty wild deathmatches including RSP defeating Mance Warner and this months show was about on par. The undercard was honestly what I’ve come to expect with skinny guys doing flips. I’m just not into the 205 Live model of wrestling so this stuff does nothing for me. They brought back Masada who has had a poor relationship with the company lately and blasted them in open interviews many times. He faced Dan O’Hare in a  pretty good Masada style brawl with a lot of cringe “pain” spots with the skewers and other weapons. He defeated him in the end which kinda sucks as O’Hare is better than the exposure he gets and he should be booked better after defeating Tremont in Tremont’s last CZW show.

Screen Shot 2018-11-13 at 8.17.23 PM.png

The main event was Mitch Vallen (who needs to stop doing that screaming shit) defeating some dudes I never heard of in a handicapped match before Conor Claxton and Brandon Kirk came out and Jimmy Lloyd joined Mitch to make it a tag match. It was a pretty wild brawl with light tubes and other weapons, a bit disjointed and hard to follow but still a lot better than most of the CZW stuff they put out. The babyfaces won after an exploding bat shot and Maria Manic debuted to help them clear the ring and officially challenged “The Office” to a match at Cage of Death but no word on if it will actually be in the cage.

Screen Shot 2018-11-13 at 8.18.19 PM.png

I have to say that the production of GCW shows is right on par with PWG and other super indies and then watching a CZW show just makes CZW look like something from the early 2000’s. Bad lighting, bad building, terrible sound mixing, even worse announcing, etc.

The big news came a week later where, during the LA Confidential show, CZW announced on Twitter that Atsushi Onita was coming back to the Combat Zone for Cage of Death.

This should be a massive announcement and it was instead buried in a video clip in a Tweet that got almost no reaction. And I mean NO reaction whatsoever. Most of the comments I saw were just chiding DJ Hyde and CZW for the rumors of Onita holding them up for money the last time he was in CZW, the poor handling of the promotion of the match and overall “eye rolls” at the company.

No word on what Onita will be doing there but my money is on a meet and greet and a run in during the match with the Office.

Cage of Death will be at the old ECW Arena which itself has fallen on some hard times with bad PR, promotions leaving due to high booking fees and a lot of constraints such as no blood and other demands and one person noted to me that this is a huge gamble for CZW because of the high booking price.

The Cage of Death show was almost no hype going on. RSP is facing MJF in the main cage match, they have the Office vs. Jimmy Lloyd and his crew tag match and the Onita appearance, after that its the usual CZW hodge lodge of student matches. Their tweets get less than 10 retweets in most cases and the fans are unrelenting in their scathing comments.

I wish them luck.

***Japanese Deathmatch News***

I just like this picture and I hope Minoru Fujita gets stateside one day because he rocks.

Screen Shot 2018-11-07 at 8.31.27 PM.png

Masashi Takeda and Shuji Ishikawa promoted the second Machida Wrestling show on October 29th. Takeda was in the main event and not Ishikawa when he teamed with Kasai to defeat Masato Tanaka and Minoru Fujita.

Screen Shot 2018-10-30 at 6.55.20 PM.png

Machida is a Tokyo suburb and these shows are designed as family shows with a lot of local sponsorship. On November 12th they held a talk event with Takeda and Ishikawa for a private audience.

Screen Shot 2018-10-30 at 1.26.31 PM.png

I saw the October 25th BJW show and the Ueki vs. Takahashi match is a really good old school deathmatch. They had barbed wire bats, cheese graters and other stab weapons. Ueki took a lot of punishment with some big cartoony selling to put Takahashi over big beofre the Sumo Hall show.

The Ito/Sekine vs. Kobayashi/Uto match was better then you’d expect. Ito and Kobayashi had an extended period against each other and Uto is looking very good in a deathmatch. Since shaving him head he really looks like Kobayashi. If he keeps it up he will be someone who could last a while and mean something in the division.

Kasai’s run in was pretty great. They attacked every one and laid them out, Kasai wound up bleeding from his chest and his neck/ear. I’m not sure if Kasai will stick around after but if he does he has some built in programs as he attacked every one including some of the junior wrestlers.

Despite every indication and every interview outright saying Takeda will defend the Freedoms title against Kasai on Bloody Xmas Freedoms will hold a one day tournament on 12/6 to determine the next challenger for the King Of FREEDOM World Championship. The winners of Jun Kasai vs. Daisuke Masaoka and Takashi Sasaki vs. Tomoya Hirata will fight in the final for a title shot. This is just a formality to pop a quick spot show.

Screen Shot 2018-11-03 at 8.01.57 PM.png

It definitely seems like BJW are building to an eventual Takeda vs. Hideki Suzuki match.

Screen Shot 2018-11-07 at 10.24.33 PM.png

BJW and DDT announced that the lottery for the New Years Eve tag tournament will be on November 28th at Koraken Hall. 16 wrestlers from BJW and 16 from DDT will be randomly paired for the one night tournament that usually goes almost 5 hours.

The Weekly Pro Wrestling year in review issue came out and Takeda and Kasai made the cover.

Screen Shot 2018-11-17 at 2.48.10 PM.png

On November 14th Takeda participated in the Capture Tokyo worked MMA league in the MonSTAR Basement. Apparently his back opened up and he got blood on the mats.

Screen Shot 2018-11-18 at 10.46.27 PM.png

The voting for the DDT General Election has finished and Jun Kasai placed 20th with only 239 votes  (the winner received 1,963). I believe this is a shoot vote so it does speak to the popularity of Kasai in DDT. Despite this Kasai said he wanted to enter next year’s election and stated he must do something to gain popularity in the next year. He also hinted that December will be his last dates with DDT.

Screen Shot 2018-11-01 at 12.44.23 PM.png

BJW has started selling bottled flourescent lighttube shards. Some of them even have blood on them incase we need to clone Takeda in the future.

On October 31st Kasai celebrated Halloween by playing Super Mario Brothers 1 and 3 on the Famicom Classic with Minoru Fujita and Masashi Takeda. Apparently Takeda boasted harder than his fingers could keep up with but in fairness none of them looked to have any skills. Later Kasai played Castlevania 1 and looked like a beast.

Screen Shot 2018-11-03 at 8.02.27 PM.png

Kasai had a 23 page piece done on his career in Weekly Pro wrestling #1983

Violent Jack will be on Maskamania on November 25th at Shin-Kiba.

On November 3rd Tajiri defeated his ECW rival Super Crazy in Korakuen Hall for AJPW to defend the GAORA TV Title.

Screen Shot 2018-11-03 at 8.23.09 PM.png

Ryuji Ito & Ryuichi Sekine vs Abdullah Kobayashi & Yoshihisa Uto on 11/27 will be a steel cage match since Jun Kasai interfered in their match on 10/25. This was Uto’s wish

Screen Shot 2018-11-11 at 12.27.57 AM.png

On November 10th at Shinkiba a small indie called WILD HERO ran a barbed wire tag team match.

Screen Shot 2018-11-19 at 9.21.53 PM.png

On November 18th Antiscene, the legendary punk band, participated in Genocidefest at Shinkiba in Tokyo. This is an annual event with heavy metal and punk bands playing on the stage while wrestling takes place. The main event saw Masashi Takeda and Naoya Takase go to a draw with Kenji Fukimoto and a Jason character when Chainsaw Tony ran in and all hell broke loose.

Screen Shot 2018-11-18 at 10.46.00 PM.png

Also on the undercard Minoru Fujita and Rina Yamashita defeated GUNSO and Kyu Mogami in a deathmatch. This is really an event I am hoping to attend next year and it is one of the more unique shows as the bands play during the matches and they have musically timed spots at points. Special thanks to my friend Taka from the FREEBIRDS store for photos and reports. FMW legend Ricky Fuji also wrestled on the undercard.

Casanova Valentine is getting in shape.

Screen Shot 2018-10-28 at 3.44.28 PM.png

IWA Midsouth’s King of Kings tournament came and went with nothing happening. They didn’t have a building and the wrestlers all took other bookings. Despite this there are still fans looking for refunds for the event that was supposed to occur almost 3 weeks ago. I am just saying this bluntly, if the Rottens don’t have the cash you won’t get it. IWA Midsouth has moved to a new building in Jeffersonville and it looks like they won’t be doing deathmatches there.

The VIP packages for the Collective are sold out.

Guantos Hardcore Crew had their re-debut, Second Chance, on November 3rd in Guadalajara. Before the show they were told not to advertise light tubes so they instead changed it to a fans bring the weapons match and “fans” brought light tubes. The show was considered a success and the show is available on DVD with Smart Mark Video.

They will be coming back with a deathmatch tournament of some sort. It is not decided if it will be a multi day tournament or all in one night. It will be in early 2019 and they have an American wrestler locked in.

Ciclope and Miedo Xtremo made their AAA debut attacking Pagano and Joe Lieder on a spot show with light tubes and again at Heroes Immortals on October 28th. This was a set-up for the Ciclope/Miedo vs. Pagano/Joe Lider match in Veracruz on November 10 which Ciclope and Miedo Xtremo won.

Screen Shot 2018-11-03 at 8.02.36 PM.png

This is all building to a AAA vs. DTU show in December promoted by DTU.

DTU will also be running a deathmatch tournament on December 1st. It will feature 2 rings and Miedo Xtremo, Ciclope, Crazy King, Crazy Frank and more have already been announced.

Also on December 1st NGX is running a deathmatch show featuring Markus Crane and Violent Jack.

Speaking of Violent Jack he will not be renewing his US working visa so don’t expect to see him in the US.

He is not advertised for Freedoms after December 1st either and they have a tag title match on November 20th so he could lose the titles. He always leaves after Christmas and comes back around April.

ICW in Milwaukee has signed Orin Veidt vs. Jimmy Lloyd, a rematch from H20’s Deathmatch Extravaganza, for February 24th,

Reed Bentley and John Wayne Murdoch filmed a promo for their upcoming tour with Zona 23. They confirmed there will be a junkyard deathmatch featuring an exploding deathmatch of some sort between one of them and the Zona 23 champion.

Joey Janela has been arguing with fans on social media and said a few interesting things. He stated that Onita is coming in for Spring Break for the same price as The Great Sasuke (which at first sounded ludicrous but with CZW bringing him in with such little notice it may be true). He also said outright they aren’t doing an explosion match.

IWA Midsouth has announced Michael Elgin vs. PCO for a show on January 10th, 2019.

Giancarlo Dittamoto, the production guy behind the Onita/Tremont Praying promo video, the Joey Janela Spring Break promos and so much more has been hired by the WWE.

Interspecies Wrestling as part of the GCW Collective announced a Bring your Own Lego Deathmatch for their show on April 4th.

Gorky City Wrestling, the Russian federation that ran the Slavonic Violence tournament a few months ago featuring that insane fire spot has been uploading matches to their Youtube. You can find them here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHgKy5cbVRw

I am completely out of energy to do a write up  but check out ICW out of Milwaukee as they had a bloody ass show on November 18th and if I get a chance to watch it I’ll review it next time.

Watching the Japanese deathmatch scene has never been easier but it isn’t perfect. Obviously the Real Hero Archive (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5rK95X3mRiiSDNvTnQ0aUhWODg) has most every show you could ever imagine up there including most all Freedoms shows and a ton of classic hardcore puroresu.

The Mutton and the Ham Youtube Channel for a lot of classic FMW, IWA, BJW and also current BJW, Freedoms and odd show spots (https://www.youtube.com/user/MuttonAndTheHam)

The Official BJW Youtube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/bjwmovie) goes through moods of uploading a LOT of content. During the 2017 Ikkitousen they were uploading 2 or 3 tournament matches a day.

You can find a lot more Youtube channels by searching for the Japanese name of any of your favorite wrestlers (such as this match featuring Takeda and Kasai https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWU-NWQt_GI from an indy), a lot of handicam/phone footage or those notorious DVD only shows but there is little consistency.

BJW has a subscription streaming service called BJW Core and is 888 yen a month (about $8 USD) located at http://www.bjwcore.com

IWA Midsouth is available on http://powerbomb.tv

Bahu sells a TON of classic, hard to find hardcore puro as well as current Freedoms DVD’s. You can contact him at http://fmwwrestling.us/FMWLibrary.html

Freedoms shows are harder to get. The smaller shows, despite having crazy matches on the regular, are only filmed half the time and are only sold as DVD exclusives at shows (that I would buy if I had owned a DVD player in the past 6 years) so they rarely make it to Youtube or Real Hero. The larger shows from Korakuen are broadcast on Samurai TV on a 2-3 week delay without commentary and with muted music entrances and only 1 camera shots but for whatever reason these only appear sporadically on the normal avenues so good luck.
